April Fools' Hat

As you may know, hats a have a checkered history of success.  Some are exquisite in their detail and styling - bringing out the finest features of a person's face.  Others, can be wildly imaginative and 'over the top' creative whereby the person wearing the hat plays second fiddle to the outlandish creation perched upon their head.  We've all seen them on fashion runways or perhaps on recent red carpets. They shock and awe us with their bizarre nature as we mutter to ourselves "Who on earth would ever wear that?" Answer :See Lady Gaga's Meat Hat.

So captivating are hats that even the all-powerful advertising world has joined in on the fun. Naturally hat designers are aware that there will be few, if any, reorders for Dolmio's Food Hat or  Perrier's Mineral Water Hat but it is always a good opportunity to get a photo in a fashion magazine or on a newspaper page.

Hats have media power and that is often exploited by the Ad Industry.  Cosmetic giant Max Factor commissioned British milliner Phillip Treacy to create the fantastical Mask Hat which help thrust him into the Fashion limelight.

No matter the origin, these hats of originality and wit continue to shock, amuse, and even delight us at times.  Though they rarely make it into our mainstream fashions, and you'll be hard pressed to find a hat like David Shilling's Space Capsule Hat in BeauChapeau.  You will however,  find wonderful and magical creations by talented artists who take their craft seriously and make it their goal to create a hat for you that will bring out your cheek bones, brighten your eyes, frame your face, and magnify all the wonderful  features that your parents gave you.  Foolish?  We think not.
