Trans-Canada Ontario Cap
10108511The construction of the Trans-Canada Highway was a natural outgrowth of the post Second World War economic boom and the explosive output of Detroit’s automobile industry. Although the first successful attempt to cross Canada by automobile was made by Thomas Wilby in 1912 few roads, if any, existed along the rugged Lake Superior section of Ontario. At that time, the Canadian Pacific Railroad was the only reliable link over the rugged Rocky Mountains.
